SAMPLING SESSIONS OF UPCYLED SAJADA PROJECT

These sessions involve four parts: designing prayer mats using Islamic geometric shapes, cut geometric shapes, design and stitch with collaborators, and pouch-making.

DESIGNING PRAYER MATS

Sketching the design with geometric shapes. The researcher aims to create simplicity as to avoid diverting focus and distractive design.

CUTTING

Materials from different sources, including unused clothes from young Muslims whom the researcher interviewed.

STITCHING

Design & sampling process with the collaborators Jasmine Karis and Anisah Yaminah.

POUCH-MAKING

The making of prayer mat’s pouches using cotton materials from Ibrahim Mosque. After a discussion with the collabortor Trisha, the researcher decided to use basic sewing with 1 cm margins and velcro to stick the pouch head. The shape follows the folded prayer mat and the leave shape represents sustainability.
